11 Experiences You Can Do This October in Pemberton

There’s nothing wrong with cozying up by a fire, enjoying the fall foliage, and slowing down over the next few weeks. In fact, we wholeheartedly condone it. But if you’re looking to keep the adventure going, there’s no shortage of things to do in Pemberton this October.

Fall is one of the most beautiful times to visit Pemberton, BC. The summer crowds have eased, the mountains are dusted with snow, the trees are turning orange and red, and the crisp autumn air makes it the perfect time to get outside and explore. Just 30 minutes north of Whistler, Pemberton offers a different kind of Sea to Sky experience, with wide-open farmland, mountain trails, alpine adventures and plenty of opportunities to slow down between activities.

From mountain biking and horseback riding to fishing, pumpkin picking, ice cave exploration and historic walks, here are 11 experiences to add to your Pemberton fall itinerary this October.

Wagon Rides and Pick-a-Pumpkin at North Arm Farm

Make the most of harvest season at North Arm Farm, where October brings pumpkins, wagon rides and plenty of classic fall fun.

Choose a pre-picked pumpkin or head into the pumpkin patch to find the perfect one for your Halloween jack-o’-lantern. On weekends throughout October, you can also hop aboard the tractor-pulled wagon for a ride through the farm.

Stay awhile and enjoy some of the other seasonal activities on offer, including marshmallow roasting and hotdogs, making it an easy place to spend a fall afternoon with the kids.

On October 12, North Arm Farm will also host its Thanksgiving Market, bringing together local producers and vendors for a celebration of the fall harvest. It’s a great opportunity to stock up on seasonal produce, local goods and ingredients for your Thanksgiving table while enjoying the farm at one of the most colourful times of year.

Go Horseback Riding with Copper Cayuse Outfitters

See Pemberton’s farmland and mountains from the back of a Cayuse horse with Copper Cayuse Outfitters.

October is a beautiful time to explore the valley as the leaves begin to change and the surrounding mountains take on their winter dusting. Valley rides offer a relaxed way to experience the landscape with the chance of spotting local wildlife, while longer mountain adventures climb into some of the region’s spectacular backcountry.

Rides are available into October 11 for hourly and day rides.

Go Fishing with Pemberton Fish Finder

Fall is prime time for fishing in Pemberton, and Pemberton Fish Finder can take you to the rivers and lakes where local knowledge makes all the difference.

Depending on the season, conditions and trip you choose, anglers can fish for salmon and trout or head out for a catch-and-release sturgeon experience.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or looking to try fishing for the first time, a guided trip is a great way to explore Pemberton’s waterways while learning more about the local landscape and ecosystems.

Tee Off at Big Sky or Sunstone Golf Clubs

Take advantage of the final days of golf season and enjoy a round surrounded by the Coast Mountains.

Both Big Sky Golf Club and Sunstone Golf Club offer spectacular mountain views and a chance to get one more round in before winter. Golf season runs until October 11, weather permitting.

Fall can be an especially scenic time to play, with cooler temperatures and changing colours across the valley. In our opinion, Pemberton’s golf courses have the most spectacular backdrop - the imposing Ts’zil (Mt Currie).

Go Heli-Biking with Coast Range Heli

Take your mountain biking adventure to a whole new level with Coast Range Heli.

Heli-biking gives riders access to alpine terrain that is surrounded by epic glaciers and majestic peaks. Get dropped at the top of Hidden Peak before taking on approximately 12 kilometres of alpine singletrack surrounded by expansive mountain views. It’s an unforgettable way to experience the Sea to Sky’s legendary mountain biking terrain from a completely different perspective.

Heli-biking is available until October 11, weather and conditions permitting.

Journey into the Ice Caves with Beyond Whistler

For an experience that feels a little more otherworldly, head into the Pemberton Icefield with Beyond Whistler.

This guided glacier experience takes you into the ice caves beneath the Pemberton Icefield, offering a rare opportunity to explore a glacial environment from below the surface. Go where very few have gone before, or will ever go, and witness the magical blue of the glacial caves.

Explore the Pemberton Museum

Slow things down for an afternoon and discover the stories that shaped the valley at the Pemberton Museum.

Located in the heart of the village, the museum offers a glimpse into Pemberton’s agricultural, railway, mining, settlement and First Nation’s history through historic buildings, artefacts, and exhibits.

It’s a great rainy-day or slow-paced activity in Pemberton, or an easy addition to a day spent exploring the village. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday until October 25.

Hike to Nairn Falls

Looking for an easy fall hike near Pemberton? Nairn Falls is a local favourite and can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The trail follows the Green River through a forested landscape before reaching the viewpoint overlooking the powerful falls. In autumn, the changing foliage adds another layer of colour to the walk. For a longer outing, you can also access the Sea to Sky Trail from the One Mile Lake area and explore a little farther into the valley.

Always check current trail, park and weather conditions before heading out, particularly later in the season.

Enjoy One Mile Lake

You don’t have to go far to enjoy some of Pemberton’s scenery.

One Mile Lake is just minutes from the village and is a great spot for a relaxed fall outing. Walk the lakeshore trail, enjoy a picnic, take in the mountain views, play some frolf, go to the dog beach, enjoy the abundant bird life for birdwatchers or, for the brave, go for a refreshing cold dip.

The surrounding trails also connect into the local mountain biking and hiking network, including routes around Signal Hill, making it easy to combine a ride with some time by the lake.

Mountain Bike the Hero Dirt around Pemberton

October can be one of the best times of year to experience Pemberton mountain biking.

As the weather cools and the trails get a bit of moisture, the valley can make for incredible riding conditions. From the trails around Signal Hill to the network extending toward Mackenzie, there are options for riders looking to explore Pemberton’s varied terrain.

As always, check current trail conditions before setting out and ride within your ability.

Try Something New at Whistler Shooting Adventures

Looking to try something completely different? Head to Whistler Shooting Adventures, located just south of Pemberton, and test your aim at the shooting range.

With guided experiences and a range of options for visitors, it’s an activity that offers something different from the typical mountain adventures found throughout the Sea to Sky. It can also be a good option for a rainy fall day when you’re looking for an activity beyond hiking or biking.
