Pet-Friendly Pemberton: A Dog’s Adventure
Pemberton is the kind of place where dogs aren’t just welcome, they’re part of the adventure. With outdoor patios, pet-friendly stays, and even golf with your dog, it’s easy to bring your four-legged companion along for your trip to Pemberton. Here’s how to make the most of Pemberton with your dog by your side.
Welcoming Stays
Finding the right place to stay makes all the difference. Pemberton Valley Lodge goes above and beyond for pet-friendly comfort, complete with a dog wash station and a thoughtful pet amenity welcome package. Located as close to town as you can get, you have easy access to the Valley trails network, One Mile Lake, and the downtown core - perfect for adventurous pups who need exercise. For something more secluded, Joffre Creek Cabins offers a cozy, comfortable stay in the forest, while Lillooet Lake Lodge welcomes dogs on request for an off-grid lakeside escape on Lillooet Lake.
Pull Up a Patio Chair (and a Water Bowl)
After a day outside, there’s nothing better than relaxing on a sunny patio. Spots like Mile One Eating House, The Beer Farmers, and Pemberton Brewing Co. are known for their laid-back, dog-friendly vibes. You’ll also find welcoming outdoor spaces at Big Sky Golf Club’s Fescue’s Restaurant and Sunstone Golf Club - perfect for soaking up the views with your pup nearby.
Looking for something simple? Pull up a stool at Mount Currie Coffee Co’s balcony patio in town for a coffee and bite to eat.
A spin on the green - take your dog golfing!
For something a little different, you can even bring your dog along for a casual round at Sunstone Golf Club any time. Or head to Big Sky Golf Club, where dogs are welcome on Sundays and Mondays after 4 PM for a small additional fee, or any time if you are a member! As mentioned earlier, both golf clubs patios welcome pups for a drink and bite to eat after your round.
Go on an adventure
This is where Pemberton really shines. Take a scenic hike from One Mile Lake to Nairn Falls for a nice shaded trail through the forest and along the Green River, or let your dog run free at the One Mile Dog Beach, an off-leash favourite. On a hot summer’s day, this is the perfect place to let your pup cool off in the glacial-fed lake. Find the stick library for lots of fetch in the water!
Pemberton is also known for its abundance of pet-friendly trails. With few provincial parks around restricting dogs on trails like in Whistler, most hikes are open to dogs, giving you plenty of options to explore.
Visit in the Winter and you’ll be able to take snowy walks around town, let your dog run around in the powder at the Off-Leash Dog Park. Depending on conditions, some farms will open up a XC ski track as well!
Know Before You Go
With so much open wilderness, it’s important to come prepared. Keep your dog on leash where required, be mindful of wildlife, and always pack out what you pack in. A little preparation ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Just note that Joffre Lakes does not allow dogs as it is a Provincial Park, and when on backcountry trails, you do need to keep your dog on leash as you may potentially meet wildlife. Many SAR calls about wildlife interactions often are about off-leash pets - be responsible, keep your dog on leash (we love a long lead for hiking!)
And please (!!!) carry doggy bags with you, pick up after your dog, and dispose of them in the many bins around the valley - or pack it out with you.
