Backcountry Huts

For the experienced backcountry explorer

Pemberton is where British Columbia’s wild spirit runs free—home to vast alpine terrain, glacier-fed lakes, and remote valleys that call to adventurers year-round. Nestled at the edge of the Coast Mountains and the South Chilcotin wilderness, it’s a launchpad for deep exploration. Built by local pioneers, maintained by passionate guides and volunteers, and used by winter ski-tourers and summer hikers, these remote huts, cabins and yurts offer a wild retreat into the alpine for experienced backcountry adventurers.


Coast Range Alpine Yurt

Location: Tucked behind Ts’zil (Mt Currie) in the Hibachi range.

Access: Via helicopter with Coast Range Heli-Skiing

Use: Winter guided heli-touring , or Summer nightly reservations.

About: This off-grid yurt sits deep in the Coast Mountains and offers a truly spectacular backcountry shelter. The yurt combines cosy comfort with unmatched access to untouched terrain.

Whitecap Alpine

Location: McGillivray Pass, north of Pemberton

Access: Guided trips with Whitecap Alpine via helicopter

Use: Winter ski-touring and Summer hiking

About: Whitecap Alpine offers guided adventures including skiing, hiking, and events. Their McGillivray Pass Lodge is a backcountry basecamp with comforting charm and expert support.

Wendy Thompson Hut

Location: Marriott Basin, just off the Duffey Lake Road

Access: Non-motorized. Reservations required.

Use: Ski touring, snowshoeing, hiking

About: A well-maintained alpine club hut nestled in a pristine basin, offering access to peaks and powder. The hut will sleep up to 16 persons + 4 custodians.

Tenquille Lake Cabin

Location: Tenquille Lake

Access: Non-motorized

Use: Summer hiking, winter ski-touring

About: A volunteer-maintained, cabin in an iconic alpine setting with wildflowers, wildlife, and epic ridgelines. Reservations required. 4x4 vehicle required to reach trailhead.

Keith’s Hut

Location: Cerise Creek, Duffey Lake Road

Access: Non-motorized. First-come-first-serve. By donation.

Use: Ski touring, mountaineering, hiking

About: A beloved memorial hut near Joffre Peak, known for deep snow and dramatic terrain. Free to use (please make a donation), but always busy—respectful hut etiquette essential.

Eldorado Cabin (South Chilcotin)

Location: Eldorado Basin, just north of Gold Bridge

Access: Non-motorized in Summer. Helicopter or ground in Winter.

Use: Ski touring, hiking, and mountain biking

About: An A-frame hut run by Tyax Adventures in the South Chilcotin. Most popular in the winter, backcountry skiers are flown in by helicopter from Pemberton. Get on the waitlist!
