It's Our Day... Pemberton!
Brought to you by the Pemberton Spirit Committee and Community Organizations
As the sun rises over the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Centre's Inukshuk, our community will observe the start of the Olympic Torch Relay as it makes its way through Pemberton, linking Pemberton with communities from all over the globe. People will line the streets where volunteers will hand out hot chocolate to keep us warm and commemorative flags to help us cheer on the participants.
When the last runner has completed their segment, the fun will begin at the Pemberton Community Centre, conveniently located on the Relay route. Beginning with a traditional blessing by a member of the First Nations community, followed by our National Anthem, Oh Canada. Speeches, entertainment, it will be a celebration for all.
Pemberton Torch Day Events
Immediately following the celebration will be photo opportunities with the VANOC mascots. Miga, Quatchi and Sumi and a chance to hold and get a photo with the Torch.
A videographer will capture images from all the different events taking place in Pemberton.
The Pemberton Firefighters will host a Polar Bear Swim at One Mile Lake, complete with a bonfire to warm up the swimmers after their chilly dip.
What could be more Canadian than a game of street hockey? Pemberton will host a fun filled no contact hockey tournament complete with a medal ceremony.
Along side the street hockey tournament we will have a sporting event for kids featuring Nordic Skiing. There will be a BBQ running throughout the day.
Taking place inside the Community Centre will be activities for Pemberton's seniors & young children and the Pemberton Public Library will host a story-time for children of all ages.
The evening is the time to celebrate together and as lovely as the sunrise was at the start of this glorious day so will the fireworks be to end the day with a wonderful splash of light.
