Cycling in Pemberton

When you ride into Pemberton from Whistler along the Sea-to-Sky trail, you enter another world: a micro-climate different from the mountains you have just left behind.

In front of you is an expanse of farmland as far as the eye can see. One Mile Lake beckons, and Mount Currie stands majestic overseeing it all. The village, which you can just see from where you stand, is tucked away in this valley, whose peaks rise more than 8,500 ft.

You stop for a bit on the crest before heading down the hill to the village itself. Should you stop for a dip in the lake? Should you continue on to Nairn Falls before heading to the Village itself? You decide.

Road Cycling

If you are on a road bike, you are now in a hub with fantastic rides going off in each direction. You’ll be surprised by the quiet you encounter. Out the Pemberton Meadows, or through Mount Currie to D’Arcy, there will be miles of countryside where you see nothing but wild horses, the occasional cow, and perhaps a passing car. After the success of both the Ironman and Slow Food Cycle Sunday, Pemberton is now known for road biking. Roads are flat, people are friendly, the weather is generally good, and there is very little traffic.

Mountain Biking

If you are traveling by mountain bike, you might decide to give Signal Hill a try first, challenging one of the intermediate or advanced (blue or black diamond) runs just adjacent to the Village. Mountain biking in Pemberton was given a boost in 2010 when the village (with the government of Canada) invested $120,000 in trails. The Nimby Fifty, a technical cross country race for serious mountain bikers, is in its fifth year this year, and has also put Pemberton on the map for mountain biking.
